A Vegan Whole Grain Pasta Alternative
Whole grain pasta can be healthy, especially made with flax seed as your egg substitute. It’s full of flavor and simple to do. Plus, it’s vegan. Bonus!
Healthy Flax Seed Pasta
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp. ground flax seed
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 4 tsp. olive oil
- 2 1/2 cups whole grain spelt flour
- 1/4 tsp. sea salt
Instructions
Prep
- Ground flax seed well (I use a coffee grinder). Let it sit in warm water for a couple minutes and let thicken to an egg-like consistency.
Mix
- Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Add flax mixture and olive oil. Stir with fork. As mixture comes together finish blending ingredients with your hands. If it's too dry, add water 1 tsp at a time.
- Turn the dough onto a floured board. Knead the dough with your hands for 1-2 minutes until it is well mixed. Form into a log, cover with saran wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
